5 Celebrities Proud of Their Gay Children and Those Who Couldn’t Care Less

The contemporary issues of LGBT garner a host of reactions ranging from downright hostile to supportive and understanding. It is a big part of our everyday lives since we do come in contact with people or opinions that are to do with such issues.

Following are few celebrities who are either full on supportive or they choose to remain neutral or worst, not at all sympathetic to their children regarding their sexual orientation.

1. Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie

The father and daughter relationship is normally a very loving and caring bond but there were several reasons there was no warmth shared by Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie. The fact that they were both estranged from each other does not help the matter of supporting Jolie. Only recently after the death of Jolie’s mother did they made their peace with each other.

For a father who was not there for most of her daughter’s life we could only expect that he can’t care less about her daughter’s sexual orientation. However to make matters worse Jon Voight made some extremely irresponsible comments in 2002 referring to Jolie’s bisexuality as ‘mental issues’. Remaining silent may be better but downright confrontation and opposition to someone’s homosexuality is not cool. We can safely assume that Angelina Jolie does not give two hoots of what her father’s opinion is about all this since he did not support her in her life anyways.

2. R. Kelly and daughter Jaya Kelly

The R&B performer R. Kelly is finding it hard to come to terms with his daughter’s sexual orientation and inclination to dress up and be referred to as a boy. Jaya Kelly is not comfortable with her sexuality and her claims of being transgender began in 2014 which were largely ignored by his father. Jaya even asked to be called Jay and her dressing and get up was apparently pointing towards her sexual orientation.

This was all too much to handle for R.Kelly from her daughter. Hence he would become defensive in interviews and disregard her daughter’s actions by simply terming it as a ‘phase’ which she is undergoing. He believes her daughter read something and just got influenced into thinking this way.

3. Magic Johnson and son Elijah Johnson

Johnson and his wife Cookie have a son whom they showed unconditional love and support when he came out with the news of being gay in 2014. Elijah Johnson, their son of 19 years was met with unconditional love from his parents when he openly shared his inclinations of being gay.

Being a truly loving parent, Magic Johnson just advised his son to be careful about practicing safe sex. This is understandable since he himself is a HIV positive and knows the importance of being cautious.

4. Brangellina and their daughter Shiloh

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have a wonderful bunch of six children and although they recently got divorced it is about their daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. Initially her behavior of wearing boy’s clothing was disregarded as something funny and unimportant. However her tendency to be identified as a boy only intensified with time.

Fortunately, with the passage of time both came around and accepted their daughter’s preferences and accepted her with her hair cut short and her being referred to as a boy.

5. Gloria Vanderbilt and son Anderson Cooper

As soon as Anderson Cooper announced that he is gay back in 2012 Gloria Vanderbilt fully supported her son’s decisions and remained by his side no matter what. She fully endorsed his decision and never said a word of negativity always cheering him on. Infact the two authored a book together ‘The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son On Life, Love, and Loss’ which also deals with this subject.

She just hopes her son settles down with his partner and adopt children so she could be a grandmother one day. Maybe all this support could be attributed to the fact that Gloria herself had a lesbian relationship back in her day.
