We have seen a lot of transformation but the most surprising are the kids’ transformation then and now. I feel lucky because I got to see both sides of the spectrum, the world before the technology invasion and the world after. Our generation was always dependent on outdoor games and not on gadgets. We didn’t stay indoors because there was nothing to do unless it was raining and even then we were begging to go out if only to the porch. But the kids today are so different; everything is centered on their gadgets.
Here is some kids’ transformation then and now that makes us realize how drastically things have changed since we were kids. These kids’ transformation makes me feel like I am so old.
Then: It was so difficult for us to click and then get the pictures washed to have it.
Now: There are smartphones, you just need to open the camera and voila you have captured the moment.
2.Listening to music
Then: When we were kids, we had the Cds and DVDs to listen to music or that walkman and radio.
Now: Kids have a lot of options to listen to their favorite song anywhere anytime.
Then: We had two programs to choose from and they both involved tying up the phone line.
Now: We can pick and choose what internet programs we want and customize them to our exact preference. Wi-fi is everywhere and we never have to worry about paying for the internet.
Then: We were all about the Looney Tunes and Saturday morning lineup from 6 am to noon. It was nonstop cartoons and we used to eagerly wait for it.
Now: Kids today don’t want to sit through a 90-minute cartoon that doesn’t involve some Zombie or Vampire.
Then: When we were kids we used to read books and we actually enjoyed and loved the smell of them.
Now: It’s all about kindle now. Basically, a “swipe left” pastime.
Then: When we got punishments, it was all about thrown out of the classroom or holding our ear and doing sit ups.
Now: Today’s way of punishment is taking away the phone or charger from the kids or just turning off the wi-fi.
Then: We used to actually go out and make friends after so much of hard work trying to befriend with them.
Now: It’s so easy to make friends now, just a click and yay! You have a new friend. Social networking site like Facebook, twitter have made it easier.
Then: We used to attend concerts without cell phones which mean we enjoyed and lived the moment.
Now: It’s all about getting clicked and uploading it on your social networking sites.
Then: We let our imaginations run wild.
Now: Kids let the gadgets take control of them.
Then: All you needed for a successful bash where you have food, cold drinks, paper plates, and Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
Now: If it doesn’t look like you can upload pictures of it and it’s fancy for people to talk about it, it’s unsuccessful.
Then: We preferred clothes that are comfortable and covered ourselves nicely.
Now: The skirts are too short, the jeans are too tight, and there is way too much skin.
Then: We rushed home from school so we could run around the garden and play with our friends.
Now: Children rush home now from school to do their extracurricular activities and finish all their homework.
These kids’ transformation seriously makes me sick and miss my childhood days badly. Life was so good and we didn’t have to worry about anything!
